With only one starter returning
from the previous season, the 1961-62 CHS basketball program
was definitely in a rebuilding year. Things started
slowly with losses to Mt. Vernon and
eventual state champ Stephen Decatur. However,
the Orphans went on to win the Centralia Holiday Tourney for a second consecutive year, and took the Salem Invitational Tourney for the second of what would be five consecutive titles.
The
Orphans was ranked #1 in the state as they duplicated the 29
straight wins of the 1960-61 team
before falling to Chicago Carver in the
state quarterfinals.
Two team members, Don Duncan and
Herb Williams, were each
named All-State.
COACH: Bill
Davies ASST. COACHES: Jerry
Wilson, Paul Beaty.
