After playing two
varsity seasons at Centralia High School and
two years at Centralia Junior College Wilson
was given a basketball scholarship to
Southeast Missouri State, becoming a regular
in 1952.
He later returned to serve in many
capacities at CHS. He was assistant coach in basketball,
football, and track, and was head golf coach
for both boys and girls. He was also
Athletic Director for several years.
Wilson
was Centralia High School Baseball coach from 1957
through 1969, compiling a record of 180-69.
He
coached CHS through its greatest baseball era in
the early 60’s. The 1960 team brought the school
its first district title and the
“Mouseketeers” of 1962 gave the Orphans their
first state tourney birth as they went to the
Elite Eight. In a five year span from 1960 through
1965 his teams chalked up a record of 100-21.
