Dewey served as secretary of the Centralia Sports Hall of Fame Committee from
1986 until his untimely passing in 1997. He came by his love of Centralia sports just as
so many others have as he participated in the recreation department activities, as well
as school sports teams.
He was a member of the “Rowdy Rats”, the B-league champs
of the community center. During the summers of his high school
days, he was quoted as saying “he practically eats, sleeps, and drinks baseball”.
Dewey played four years of football at CTHS and was named All South Seven
Conference 1st team offense and 2nd team defense his Senior year. He was also elected
student body president his Senior year.
In 1961, Dewey was so honored to be hired as Business Administrator to his Alma
mater, CTHS and Centralia Junior College. When the Junior College separated from the high school, Dewey helped
form Kaskaskia College and became Vice President of Finance and Operations at KC until his retirement in
1995.
All the while, he was a supporter of Centralia schools and recreation department athletics.
