Jimmie
Evers was the Centralia High School Coach in
multiple sports for many years. From 1951 to
1959, his basketball had a record of 184-75,
and from 1951 to 1966 his football
teams accumulated a record of
111-35-7. As track coach, 1942-1967, his teams were nearly unbeatable in Southern Illinois, winning eight District and 18 Conference titles.
In 1978 the
Illinois Basketball Coaches Association
inducted Evers as a charter member of their
Hall of Fame as well as the Illinois High
School Football Coaches Association Hall of
Fame.
In 2009 Coach Evers was awarded the
Distinguished Alumni Award by Centralia High
