For 36 years
Amy Nelson touched the lives of just about
every Centralia child who participated in
sports and recreation activities. From
1946 through 1982 she was the secretary,
event scheduler, and event coordinator for
Howard Cooksey and Fred Pearson at the
Centralia Community Center. She put in
50-hour weeks and hardly missed a day in
those 36 years.
For the last three years, before leaving the
Center at age 81, Amy worked without pay,
but did receive cab fare money from the
Recreation Board. In 1976 she was
presented with the first Chamber of Commerce
Senior Citizen Award.
Amy also served as the treasurer for the
city of Wamac from 1941 through 1979.
