Monken spent many, many hours with the youth of the Centralia
area. He began by coaching a girl’s high school softball team. He didn’t stop there, as he also coached a woman’s
softball team and then added the task of a boy’s Bantom
League team and a boy’s traveling team.
In the meantime,
he also had a girl’s high school traveling team. Monken not only put in time with these teams, he also
backed them as a sponsor as well.
Monken also coached the Centralia American Legion Post 446 team for two years. The 1988 team
qualified for the state play-offs.
