While he was well known around the area for his accordion, he was
just as well known as a fixture at most all Centralia High School basketball and football games as well as the sports
scene in general in the Centralia area.
Mondo, as he was known to
everyone around Centralia, retired from
Vesci (Falstaff Distributor) in 1975.
He played the accordion since he was a young
man and was a key member of the Illinois
Playboys, who played regularly at his tavern
in Wamac. He was also a member of the
Jack Scott Orchestra, which played in
various clubs and dance halls across
Southern Illinois for 40 years.
He loved all sports,
including hunting, fishing, bowling and
golf, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals
fan. He was also a lifetime member of
the Centralia Elks and Trinity Lutheran
Church.
Evischi died on February
5, 2010, at the age of 94.
