Nancy Scranton
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1995 Individual Award Winner


 

In 2001, Scranton topped the two million dollar mark in career earnings as a seventeen year veteran on the LPGA tour. She qualified for the 1985 tour in her first attempt, and has three titles, a second place, and four third place finishes.

While attending Centralia High School, she received ten varsity letters and was named “Women Athlete of the Year” in 1979. She won two hurdle events at the S-7 Conference meet as a Freshman. In 1979, Scranton was the leading rebounder on the girl’s basketball team and was named the “Player of the Year” on CHS’s first softball team.

In golf she was District medalist in 1976, 1977, and 1978.

As a collegiate golfer, she was named All-Southeastern Conference at Kentucky in 1983, and was chosen one of only seventeen individuals to compete in the NCAA Div-I Tourney in 1984. 

Before qualifying for the LPGA tour, Scranton captured titles at the St. Louis Metro Women’s Golf Tourney in 1981 and 1982. In 1983, she won the Illinois Ladies’ State Amateur Tourney.

In 2012 Scranton became the first female golfer to be inducted into the University of Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.
