Schlictman played on three
Centralia High School basketball teams that
totaled a record of 81-26. His Senior season
(1948) he was the leading scorer (441 pts.)
on a 19-9 team that fell in the Sectional
championship game 39-40 to eventual state
champion, Pinckneyville. Schlictman was a member of A.L. Trout’s
only baseball team at CHS. The team played
in the summer months of 1947. With a record
of 12-2 they tied for the South Seven
Conference title.
He received third team All-State honors from
the Champaign News-Gazette, and honorable
mention All-State from the Chicago Daily
News.
Bradley University was the next challenge
for Schlictman. He was the leading scorer on
the Freshman team and then in 1950-51, he
was the third leading scorer on Bradley’s
number one rated college team in the
nation.
They finished second in both the NCAA and
NIT tourneys, falling each time to City
College of New York.
