Gary Robinson
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1997 Individual Award Winner

As a Junior at Centralia High School (1970), Gary Robinson became the first athlete to garner All-State honors as a baseball player. That same year, he set the single season batting average record of .524.

He also holds the record for consecutive game hits at 22 and also had a streak of hits in 41 of 42 games. Along with the 1970 record batting average, he had season averages of .362 (1968), .345 (1969) and .429 (1971).

Robinson became the first CHS athlete to accept a full-ride baseball scholarship, that being to the University of Tennessee.

A promising baseball career was cut short when after his Sophomore year at Tennessee, he injured his knee playing semi-pro ball.

Robinson was not only a baseball player, as he was the leading rusher on CHS’s undefeated football team in 1969.

In 1977 he managed the Centralia Merchants Baseball team that had a record of 34-6 and won the Elite Ten League and league tournament championships.
