The most heralded softball
player in Centralia High School history,
Angie Mick, had a career pitching record of
62-27 (1986, 1987, 1988, 1989) with 778
strike outs in 596 innings. She had a career
ERA of 0.87 with seven no hitters. Mick holds all CHS softball pitching
records. The 1988 Annies made a state
quarterfinal appearance (Elite Eight), Mick
struck out a tourney record (at that time)
12 batters in that game, but the Annies fell
to Joliet (St. Francis) 1-0, ending a 21-6
season. The 1989 Annies were 23-9.
Mick was named Southern Illinois “Player
of the Year” by the Southern Illinoisian
in both 1988 and 1989. She was also named
“Female Athlete of the Year” at CHS in
1989.
With a full-ride scholarship to SIU-C, Mick
chalked up a career pitching record of
54-19. When she graduated, she had set
career ERA (1.05) and career winning
percentage (.736) records, and was either
second or third in all other career pitching
record categories.
She was named All-Conference in 1991 and
1993. While not pitching during either the
high school or college seasons, Mick made
national tourney appearances with several
ASA teams.
