Being undefeated for an entire
high school career is quite an
accomplishment. Jeanne Knight did just that.
Although it was a short career, it is still
a remarkable feat.
In 1973, Centralia High School established
track and field as the first interscholastic
sport for girls. Knight, a Junior, won
the shotput in every meet that season.
She qualified for the first ever IHSA girls
state track and field meet by winning the
shotput (324) and the discus at the
District level. Knight captured the state
shotput title with a 38 9 1/2 toss,
that still stands as a school record.
She was unable to compete as a Senior due to
an injury.
