Dwight "Dike" Eddleman
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1981 Individual Award Winner


 

While at Centralia High School, he was an All-State basketball player three years (1940, 1941, 1942). He holds the CHS basketball career scoring record of 2,702 points. His basketball jersey #40 has been retired at CHS. 

He was All-State in football 1941 and won the state high jump three times: 1940, 6’2”; 1941, 5’11 3/4”, 1942, 6’4”, and tied for 3rd in 1939. After high school he received 11 varsity letters at the University of Illinois and played in the 1947 Rose Bowl. 

In 1948, he won the silver medal in the Olympic high jump. He played five years of professional basketball. In 1983, he was inducted into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Eddleman was inducted as a charter member into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame
in 1973. 

In 2004 Eddleman was named to the 20 man All-Century Basketball Team at the University of Illinois, and in 2006 was named one of the 100 legends of I.H.S.A. State Tournament Basketball.

In 2009 Eddleman was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by Centralia High School.  The following is the information included on his award which hangs on the walls of the new Centralia High School:
