Ron Black played four years of
varsity baseball at Centralia High School.
His Freshman year in 1962, he went 8-1 as a
pitcher for the 20-7 Orphans who made the
first Elite Eight appearance by a CHS
baseball team. His career numbers as a pitcher were 23
wins, 148 innings pitched, and 193 strike
outs. While baseball records are sketchy for
some years, these numbers are certainly
among the very best when it comes to
Centralia High School baseball. In his final three varsity seasons, he
played centerfield when not pitching as the
teams had records of 22-6 (1963), 20-2
(1964), and 11-6 (1965). As a pitcher, Black
had an ERA of 1.08, 1.26 and 2.61
respectively those three seasons.
