Received All-State honors in
basketball (1946) as he led the Centralia
High School Basketball Orphans to a second
place finish at state with a 30-10
record. He was named All-State Tourney as well and
led the team in scoring for the season with
562 points. In football, Anderson was
named first team All-State at end by the
Chicago Daily News for the 1945
season. The Orphans finished 7-2-1. The tie was with
West Frankfort, which also tied the team for
the South Seven Conference title. He was
also a member of the high school track team.
